Team Delivers Under Pressure for Strategic Customer

Laura Hassett, Customer Engagement Manager across Rail services reflects on her teams latest work in supporting Volker Rail with their project requests.

In true display of teamwork and dedication, our team recently pulled off a rapid turnaround to support one of our key strategic customers, Volker Rail, and the result didn’t go unnoticed.

Volker initially requested a 10-way lever lock for commissioning, which was completed impressively quickly. The group shared their appreciation for the swift delivery—but upon installation, it became clear that the lock didn’t match the required specifications due to an error in the original design brief.

Fast forward to Thursday, 27th March: the clock was ticking. Volker reached out with an urgent request to completely rework the lock—this meant a new bar, revised contact configuration, and full resetting. The challenge? It had to be recommissioned and returned by Friday, 4th April. The teams understanding of the process allowed them to quickly problem solve ensuring there were no faults being passed through.

Without hesitation, Heath Sharratt, Aaron Moran, and Jim Bradley jumped into action, expertly led by Chris Boyle. Leading with a growth mindset the team didn’t just fix the issue—they completely re-engineered it. From manufacturing and machining a brand-new bar to rigorous testing, every step was executed with precision and purpose in line with our CARE behaviours of Continually improve and innovate and Always deliver excellence.

Thanks to their hard work and coordination, the updated lock was delivered on time—ensuring Volker stayed on schedule and avoided any project delays

We’re proud to share that Volker has since expressed their gratitude and intends to nominate this outstanding effort for their internal awards. A big well done to everyone involved for embodying our CARE behaviours and going the extra mile to deliver our customer promise, and demonstrate value as their supply chain improvement partner.
