Cowley DC celebrate Unipart's 50th
This week Unipart’s 50th anniversary celebrations went back to where it all began in Cowley…
Celebrations ran right across the week, with sessions attended by colleagues from across different contracts and with different lengths of service: from those who have joined the business very recently to colleagues with 30, 40 and even an amazing 50 year Unipart career! Operations Colleague Barry Bahadur attended one of the sessions and shared some of the highlights of his remarkable 50 years of service.
Cowley has over 30 colleagues with 25 years or more of service in 2024, collectively contributing a remarkable 1,054 years of dedication to Unipart. This staggering number speaks volumes about the loyalty and commitment that have been the bedrock of our success over the past five decades.
Darren Leigh presented long service awards to Cowley DC General Manager Barry Scott for 25 years’ service and Leslie Skelcher for 20 years, just two of the colleagues marking service milestones this year.
The anniversary celebrations were a time to reflect on Unipart’s journey. Sessions highlighted the pivotal role the Cowley Distribution Centre (DC) has played in Unipart’s growth and featured a nostalgic look at vintage advertising campaigns. Colleagues had the chance to share stories of how the warehouse used to look when they started and how it's changed over the years.
Operations Director Colin Harman said, “I enjoyed taking some time out with the team to reflect on the incredible history of Unipart. It is important to acknowledge and recognise the values and culture of the business that have enabled success over such a long period of time.”
In addition to honouring the past, the sessions also focused on the future, with leaders Chief Executive Officer, Darren Leigh and UL Managing Director Ian Truesdale joining sessions during the week and bringing to life The Unipart Way Forward strategy.
Colleagues participated in ‘World Tour’ card games and ‘golf putting challenge’, with the chance to ‘Spin the Wheel’ for a 50 related prize if they managed to putt the ball. For those that won, the prizes ranged from 50p to 50 minute early finish.
The 50th Anniversary celebrations in Cowley were a chance for our colleagues to look back at our history, celebrate who we are today and understand more about The Unipart Way Forward strategy and our future providing supply chain solutions and performance improvement technologies across our 7 sectors. I particularly enjoyed watching some of the old adverts the team had found, hearing about opportunities for growth with our customers at Cowley and recognising colleagues who had gone above and beyond. Well done and thank you!
