Big Charity Challenge 2024 Top Tips
The Big Charity Challenge is back for 2024, w/c 14 October, bringing lots of fun to the workplace, whilst raising money for well-deserved charities. Running charity events on the site gives everyone a boost and brings colleagues together.
Last year
Last year, I had the pleasure of being Site Lead for Baginton A. We raised money for Leicester Oncology Ward, a charity close to many hearts here, as a former colleague from our site - Mike Gardner - passed away, and was provided outstanding care from Leicester Oncology Ward. This charity was voted in by our people for this year too, so it's important to all of us that we raise as much money as possible.

Last year, the site engaged in a cake sale and a darts tournament, not forgetting the fire walk! That's right - in November a group of us walked across burning hot (538 degrees) coals for charity! We raised a massive amount of money from these activities, over £1000, and this donation was greatly appreciated by the hospital.
You can see pictures from last year’s fundraising activities on the Big Charity Challenge site here.
This year

This year, we know that the cake sale went down well last time, so 2024 will be the return of the cakes! Many colleagues will get involved in baking something for it, using their own money to buy the ingredients etc., which is such a lovely contribution. We have some marvelous bakers on site!
We're also going to try a pool tournament this year, along with a new idea we've never tried here before (and I doubt many other sites have either) - BINGO! Bingo cards will be sold nearer the time, with the hope that we can all gather in the export area to play this to see who wins a grand prize!
5 Top Tips!
- Make the activities as fun and enjoyable as possible!
- Have a look at the fundraising activities the charity is already running - i.e. the firewalk - this may be easier for you to get involved with
- Ensure to cater across all shifts (am/pm/nights) - everyone should be able to join in the fun
- Try and think of a brand new idea - keep it fresh - the most unique activities/events will be shared across Unipart
- A lot of people just don’t carry cash anymore, so ensure a QR code is printed on a poster for people to scan onto their phones that will take them straight to your JustGiving page. This way they can make an Apple Pay donation!
