Wellbeing Wednesday: Charity virtual coffee mornings

We ran Unipart’s first ever virtual coffee morning on Friday to raise money for charity.
The Events for U charity committee in Cowley has run an event for the annual Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for a number of years, but in line with Covid-Secure safety measures we moved out of The Art Room and took it remote.
A group of colleagues took time out of their busy schedules to share their stories of their coffee mugs, eat sweet treats and take part in a quiz.
Those who took part in the coffee morning were overwhelming in their feedback: it was a fun way to connect with colleagues and for those working at home it broke up what can sometimes be an isolating experience.
It was lovely to have some company, I think this could go a long way to help people who are living alone and WFH.
I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed the coffee morning - so lovely to have some time with people from around the business that I wouldn't normally get a chance or opportunity to spend time with. It made me feel a real sense of belonging and I actually felt quite emotional after it...a definite boost to mental health.
Can we have more little virtual opportunities like this please?!
If you couldn’t make the coffee morning but would still like to donate you can do so here: https://donation.macmillan.org.uk/wbcm/one-off. Last year Macmillan provided support to 1.9m people in the UK.
At this time charities are finding it increasingly hard to raise money so if you have a spare £1 consider sharing it today by donating to a charity of your choice.
Given the success of the remote coffee morning we are looking at how we can use virtual events both for a good cause and to bring colleagues closer together at this difficult time. If you have any ideas or would like to contribute to future events please contact me on laura.duthie@unipart.com.
