In recognition of International Women’s Day (8 March), Georgina Turton, Head of Transformation, Governance & CI shares her Unipart journey…

Georgina tells us how she went from aspiring barrister to Master Black Belt in process excellence. It's been a winding road, but she learned so much along the way.

"Growing up, I had dreams of becoming Wonder Woman or a barrister; I never imagined myself in the field of process excellence. But after diverse experiences in computer sales, lecturing, and strategic alliances, with my love of data analysis and logical thinking, it was no surprise that I stumbled upon this fascinating world at GE Capital GCF"

"Embracing the Six Sigma methodology, I became a Master Black Belt, focusing on making continuous improvement an integral part of the organisation. I've had the privilege of working in various industries, from pharmaceuticals to investment banking and retail, alongside inspirational women leaders who championed strong working practices, respect, and inclusion"

Georgina was asked who her role model was:

"One of my role model’s is Julie Brown, COO and CFO of Burberry and now CFO of GSK. Her emphasis on purpose, empowerment, and high standards has left a lasting impact on me. But it was my great-grandmother's unwavering determination to create a better life for her children that shaped my values and work ethic.

"Inspired by her courage, I've made a commitment to never stop learning. Every year, I challenge myself to acquire new knowledge and expand my toolkit as a Master Black Belt"

This year, the theme of International Women’s Day is ‘Accelerate Action’, a call to speed up progress towards parity.

"My journey serves as a reminder that career paths are not always straightforward and that embracing change can lead to unexpected opportunities and fulfilling experiences. By continuously learning and adapting, I've transformed myself from a corporate number cruncher to a leader in operational and organisational excellence, impacting organisations across various industries"

"I'm grateful for the support of my colleagues, teams, and family throughout my journey. I'm excited to see what the future holds and how I can continue to contribute to the field of operational excellence"
